Cavitt appointed to Council for Exceptional Children board

Dr. Dennis Cavitt, assistant professor in the Department of Teacher Education, has been appointed to the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) by the Board of Directors to fill a midterm vacancy, effective Jan. 1. CEC is the professional association of educators dedicated to advancing the educational success of children with exceptionalities that accomplishes its mission through advocacy, standards, and professional development. 

Cavitt has worked in the field of special education for 30 years and has been an active CEC member for 14 years. During his time as a member, Cavitt has served extensively at the local level – holding the vice president, president-elect, president and immediate past president positions of the Texas unit. Currently, he serves as the chair of the CEC Representative Assembly.

Cavitt received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Pepperdine University. He also holds a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Abilene Christian University, master’s degree in education leadership from Tarleton State University, and doctorate in special education from Texas Tech University.
